Character History:
One second I need to take a deep breath and summarize this the best way that I can. It's grossly summarized. Apologies.
All right, so a long long time ago in a galaxy far away. Wait. Wrong continuity here. So a long, long time ago around, a planet orbits a star in the Scorpius constellation. This planet is entirely non-organic in nature. Yes, that's right. Cybertron had originally been nothing but metal and technology. It would shine and the people who lived there were all - you guessed it - robots. Said robots were able to transform into various alt modes. Some would consider it a paradise, but many others - like Megatron - knew differently. The ruling Senate segregated people into categories by the function of one's alt mode. Your job and the like happened had been purely dependent upon what you could transform into. Your value and place in society had been based on function. This system had been a rather corrupt one - with the high-profile people having all that they need and the 'lower classes' having pretty much nothing.
This is where Megatron starts his life. As a miner from Tarn. He's not particularly violent. Actually, he had written about the corrupt government and how to make peace through non-violent means. Unfortunately for him, he had been on the Senate's radar and that's how he really finds himself wrongfully in jail with Whirl beating him into nothing but scrap metal. Even though Orion Pax, the cop in charge, releases Megatron and then later calls out at the Senate using the words that Megatron had written, the damage is done. Megatron more or less tosses his writings aside. Soon, though, the mine he works at had a revolt. He is the one that kills first, and thus escapes and resorts to competing in the illegal gladiatorial arena just to get by. The violent and ruthless Megatron that is the one most are familiar with finally starts to show at this time - the fights he ends up participating in changing and warping his original intentions. Only after he takes over the 'show' so to speak does he really get on the whole raising of the Decepticons.
To not just keep revising his wiki page, let's just say that the war is entirely his fault because it is. Megatron's idea is he will obtain the peace and equality that he's always wanted for people by conquering them and beating the notion of conflict out of them. Great idea, right? Totally is what peace is all about. From there on out he does some really atrocious things. He had killed Sentinel Prime personally all the while establishing the Decepticon Justice Division - a collection of some of the most feared Cybertronians that love to torture their prey. He had some super warriors created. At one point, Megatron nearly had Cybertron conquered. Pretty much the next four million years is nothing but fighting back and forth between the Decepticons and the Autobots, even after Cybertron had been declared uninhabitable. There is a reason that other species typically want to avoid or despite Cybertronians... Megatron and Optimus Prime and their respective factions fighting back and forth has turned into a plague upon other words.
This all changes as soon as the Decepticons try to take Earth. Megatron had developed a six phase Invasion Protocol to take over planets, usually ending with one of the super warriors razing the planet at Phase Six. Initially he had abided by these protocols, but with the discovery of Ore 13, Megatron instead attempts to kill Optimus Prime. His defeat at the Autobot Commander's hands pretty much had set him into a frenzy and he chucks everything out the metaphorical window and orders a Phase Sixer to come and deal with the issue. An alien race had attacked at this time and after the Cons beat them back, the Autobots leave and Megatron goes back to other, more sinister plans. By the time the Autobots return, there had been seemingly no trace of the Decepticons, but Megatron had snatched up a human by the name of Hunter, who had been tied almost psychically to Sunstreaker... That connection thus had been used by Bombshell to get all the Autobot codes and such so luring everyone into traps becomes easily. Megatron had ended up ripping the Matrix out of Optimus Prime and banished the rest of the Autobots to Earth... And took over Earth.
Shame that nothing really works out. Optimus Prime and the Autobots do return to Earth. Starscream initially tries to overthrow him yet again, but elects to side with Megatron once more to fight the Autobots. It's not necessarily Optimus that does him in. It had been the combination of Optimus beating him down and the human, Spike Witwicky shooting him in the face, that ultimately brings down the warlord. The Cons retreat, ending the four million year long war. It had only been Earth that had managed to withstand their conflict... Though while the Autobots had continued to deal with the mess on Earth left behind by the war's conclusion, Starscream allows for the Decepticons to fall into decay while Megatron is slowly remade by Shockwave and Soundwave. By the time that he had emerged, Megatron has to clean up house and not only rouse his underlings, but Starscream as well. That, and well there had been an intruder of sorts: Rodimus. He had blasted Rodimus out of the wreckage that the Decepticons had lived in - Matrix and all - upon catching him.
With his new body, there had been a new plan to once more retake Cybertron. At first he had dropped bits and parts of himself onto Earth so that the humans could make weapons strong enough to kill Cybertronians in hope that it would break the Prime. Optimus had shot Soundwave instead upon realization of these facts. Even though Megatron had to depart with Soundwave, he soon returns to beat down Prime. Surprisingly, he had taken Optimus back to the rest of the Autobots and subsequently surrenders. This, of course, had been done on purpose because in his new body there is the ability to open a space bridge. While captive, he had mentioned that his actions are fueled by hate and he isn't going to stop until every single Autobot is dead. He had also been the one that dropped the bombshell that Spike had been the one that had murdered a Decepticon - an act that has stuck with Prowl even to the present ongoing series. The purpose for being taken back to Cybertron had been so he could open a space bridge and deposit the entirety of his army back on the planet... However, the universe devouring entity known as D-Void instead drew all of the Cons to him. Megatron again had to team up with the Autobots. He had to stay behind to battle the creature and the rest head into Vector Sigma to keep Galvatron from corrupting the core. Naturally, this fails. Optimus shoots a beam from the Matrix into Vector Sigma and the planet essentially resets...
FINALLY LAST SECTION. I bet your eyeballs are burning in their sockets or glazing over. Mine are glazing over just from typing.
Whatever the Matrix did to cleanse Vector Sigma had changed the planet. No longer is it this planet of steel and such. There are organic materials that now liter the surface. Megatron, at this point, goes back into hiding. He has a plan to retake the planet once more and fusses with the combiner technology in hopes of making one that he can fully control. One that has no free will. While the rest of the Decepticons aside from Shockwave are in the new Icacon, living under the thumb of the Autobot's 'government,' he emits a signal that will drive anyone that is outside of that 'city' insane. During this time, he experiments with turbofoxes and Aerialbots alike. Eventually he gets back with Soundwave and Bombshell and helps them to take control of Prowl. From around the assassination of Ratbat on, every action in the RiD series is thus the result of Megatron being in control of Prowl's actions. At the culmination of that arc, Megatron more or less has Prowl merge with the rest of the Constructicons, even though he is horribly defeated in the end by Wheeljack's invention and Bumblebee activating it.
There's a catch, though. Shockwave is really the grand puppetmaster of this all and it has its roots all the way back to before Starscream found the ore on Earth. Megatron is essential for Shockwave's plans because the space bridge inside of Megatron can act like a bridge between their universe and the dead universe that D-Void came from - a place where his former mentor still resides. Upon reviving and controlling Metalhawk, Megatron had been brought to Shockwave and goes through some serious torture ( seriously, Megatron is screaming in pain and that never happens ) and the bridge activates. While the Autobots and some Decepticons attack, Galvatron pretty much rips Megatron in half. Surprisingly, Megatron is saved and brought back to the fray of things by Bumblebee. Said Autobot had placed his trust in Megatron and isn't disappointed when the Decepticon leader returns Metroplex's thumb to the titan and thus saves everyone on the planet. Their job isn't done, though, because Shockwave still needs stopped from closing all time and space on itself to perpetually fuel Cybertron. Once more Bee and Megatron team up as an infiltration unit to try to get at Shockwave. Megatron attempts to kill Galvatron and Bee talks him down... Too bad that results in Bumblebee losing his life.
It is Megatron and Optimus Prime that end up confronting Shockwave. Optimus doesn't seem to be able to reach Shockwave with words alone, but Megatron does something completely surprising. He picks up the Autobot badge from the dead Bumblebee and slaps it over himself, declaring that if he can change, then so can Shockwave. This is how Optimus and Megatron get through to Shockwave long enough for Optimus to kill the purple bot and save cybertron once more. Afterwards, Megatron does not return to the Decepticons. He has accepted the fact that what he had tried to do all along will not work through violent means. Megatron has permanently defected to the Autobots and has accepted all of his wrongdoings. Soon following, Megatron's on trial with Starscream ruling Cybertron and Prowl as the prosecutor. Optimus Prime had elected to be the judge with Ultra Magnus working as defense. His original plea had been 'guilty' but upon realization that he is not going to actually have a fair trial, he changes it to 'not guilty' and mentions some ancient law that Optimus permits. Optimus really has no choice - there is an attack during the trial.
IN THE END, THOUGH. Megatron's sentencing is postponed and ends up being captain of the LOST LIGHT, seeking out Thunderclash to find the Knights of Cybertron. ...Which means he gets caught up in the events of the disappearing crew and finding out why that is and how to get them back
Yeap. That sure has been a thing.
Character Personality:
The truth of the matter is that Megatron is thought of as THE villain of the franchise. He's iconic and rarely seen interacting with anyone in a way that isn't meant to show the audience how 'evil' he is... Perhaps the best way to describe him would be to start from the beginning and go over the events that have changed and shaped the person that he is.
That being said, Megatron had not always been the violent warlord that he is known for in nearly every continuity. In fact, he had been something of a poet, even as a miner. By no means illiterate or uneducated, he had been the one that originally stirred questions in Orion Pax. Megatron had not been satisfied ( and remains unsatisfied ) by how the government pre-war had been and what his intentions cycled around were the well being and equality of all Cybertronians. His words in his first work show that he isn't ( or wasn't ) a violent being. His protests had been peaceful and sought nonviolent means to change the corrupt government. When the riot started at the mine he worked at, yes it had been Megatron that killed first, but the look on his face had been 'what have I done' rather than one of obtaining pleasure from the kill. Even afterwards, when the others had looked to him for guidance, he merely elected to HIDE. Megatron hadn't been confrontational at the start of his mess, oh no.
What brought about the changes in Megatron really start with being thrown in jail. The Senate had ordered Whirl to go into Megatron's cell and beat him up. It's from this point that rage and hatred slowly start to seep its way into Megatron's spark. He throws his peaceful words away, literally. Only then does he start to entertain the notion that nonviolent means are not going to work. Yet he's shown to have much hesitation even when he turned to being a gladiator to illegally obtain energon. He doesn't really want to kill. It's over time that he finally gives into the violence and death befitting a champion in the arena. What exactly that had transpired to cause such a dramatic shift isn't shown, but it's clear that the time spent fighting for his life is what really sets things into motion.
From this point on, the Megatron that is shown to the audience is fairly typical of each continuity. The war drives him to become brutal and ruthless, and the Megatron that one was before the war is all but gone. He is a mech driven by hate for those that he still believes are his oppressors, the Autobots. Megatron more or less becomes morally bankrupt. Anything goes in order to obtain the means to win this war that they have going on. He thinks nothing of wiping out lesser species or even using them to meet his needs. War and winning become his obsessions. Building his Decepticon army and raising those within the ranks to become what he requires them - monsters. Some become monsters quite literally. He thinks nothing of reformatting individuals or even going so far as to conduct experiments on both his men or on Autobots ( as shown with the Aerialbots, Constructicons, and even the Phase Sixers ). Mind control and wiping out free will are not below him in the slightest. Death and destruction follow him wherever he and his Decepticons go. Ironically, Megatron still believes that he is doing this for the sake of peace. He truly believes that the only way to create a peaceful universe is to destroy all means of conflict - by making the idea of fighting so horrible that no one ever thinks of it ever again.
Then something happens during his final defeat, by the hands of Wheeljack and Bumblebee: he sees things differently. Somewhere, deep down, Megatron realizes that everything he's done had been wrong. During his conversation Bumblebee, he asks a few questions on the height of the Decepticon empire and when the Autobot believes the decline started. Megatron responds that the Decepticons, that he, lost the moment that he gave the order to commit that first act of violence against the Senate. At this juncture, it really does seem that Megatron has undergone some soul-searching of his own. He sees Bumblebee's failures as a leader mirror his own. In a sense, it isn't so far-fetched since circumstances sort of created both Autobot and warlord into persons they weren't. Really, it's Bumblebee's actions and his beliefs that turn Megatron around. For all that Optimus Prime had tried to get Megatron to see the light again, it had been Bumblebee that really made Megatron change. This is a being that really hadn't shown genuine compassion for anyone besides Soundwave in a single instance and yet Bumblebee's death angered him. Megatron goes so far as to call Bumblebee his friend. He has never done that in the entire series. Taking up the Autobot's badge for his own is Megatron trying to put faith into what the badge actually STOOD for, instead of what it had become, more or less. If this does not show a change in his demeanor, then little else will.
All of the above attempts to show where Megatron had started and where he is now. He had been a questioning miner that turned revolutionary. Somewhere along the way his ideas shifted from nonviolence to conquest and thus he became the warlord he is so notoriously known for. Now he is nothing more than an Autobot, a captain and prisoner of the Lost Light , striving once more to obtain his goals: peace and also finding himself again.
Now that this is out-of-the-way, it's time to go into the aspects of who Megatron is that haven't seem to change overmuch. First of all, Megatron is not stupid by any means. Despite everything that is going on around him, he has a plan or a back up plan for just about any situation that arises. These plans are by not simple either. His Invasion Protocol had been fairly brilliant and alarmingly successful - so much so that Optimus Prime say that Earth is one of the few that still stand. Six phases and they had been able to infiltrate planets almost unnoticed up until the last, most destructive phases. Several times the Autobots had never even noticed that the Decepticons had still been on Earth and many times they do not realize the full scope of Megatron's plans until it is too late ( such as with controlling Prowl or bringing in all the Decepticons through Megatron's space bridge ). Megatron is rather skilled at being a strategist and likely one of the best tacticians that Cybertron has produced - even if it is all shrouded in deception and underhanded means.
Like it or not, he does own a brilliant mind. His conversation with Rung about change and what had inspired him to withdraw his book to make one edit has Megatron answering, ironically, in a philosophical way. He states that everyone is a work in progress and that they are constantly changing. It's a pretty deep insight for someone that, for a time, felt the need to shoot first and not show any signs of remorse later.
Megatron is also frighteningly charismatic and has a way with words that rivals Optimus Prime. His words, even prewar, had moved Orion Pax enough that the cop even quoted them to the Senate in a fit of rage. Those words even stuck with Optimus Prime all those centuries and it is why he had hoped there had been some good in Megatron left. The way that he uses words has the potential to inspire and inflict harm - as seen in how he had managed to bring together the Decepticons first and then later when he had to teach Starscream a lesson while the jet had been stuck in some self loathing phase. Megatron is perfectly capable of twisting and turning things as he sees fit to and that hasn't changed even with his new outlook on life - he pretty much uses words instead of his fits with Whirl to send the guy into a rage.
He sees people as they are, really. Megatron has a habit of putting people into the right sort of places based on who they are. At times it is a bit warped, but Megatron does have a certain degree of faith in people. For a time, he truly did believe Starscream would one day take over the Decepticons. While Starscream had been moping on that asteroid, though it had been a completely sick method, Megatron's 'punishment' had been to force the jet to come around and rise to take back who he is once more. Megatron even had considered Drift, as Deadlock, valuable enough to stop the DJD ( heck, even CREATING the Decepticon Justice Division shows that he allocates people to positions that they are made for ) from capturing him and instead had attempted to use Lockdown to bring him in. While trying to stop Shockwave, Megatron had deferred to Bumblebee and his plans. Even on the Lost Light, Megatron sees potential in Trailcutter and places some faith in him by promoting him ( also sort of hoping that the responsibility will make Teebs into the kind of person his file shows he could be ).
Despite all of this, some very negative traits still remain as well. Megatron doesn't think anything of tearing people down verbally ( as, again, seen with Whirl ) while enjoying it or instigating arguments with others. Even though he promotes Trailcutter, he also says that if the guy fails or puts anyone or the ship in danger, that he will tear him down. Megatron means it too, but that also implies that he actually cares about the welfare of the ship and the people on board. He is still snarky and more or less unrepentant for how he carries himself. Pride is sill an issue for him as well. Even Starscream says that Megatron is a very proud person and it shows when Megatron tells Rung that he does not like being made to feel small. In Megatron's mind, he is a very big deal and no one should think of him anything less than what he is. Megatron is a very big deal, okay? He also doesn't seem overly friendly and still enjoys a good bit of violence. Megatron, apparently, isn't all gunho about putting his life on the line for people that he doesn't know either.
Megatron also seems to have a thing for being in control of things at all times and still likes his authority. He mentions that he doesn't want Ultra Magnus to get comfortable in his chair, which implies that he considers there might be some threats to his authority. There are times where he demonstrates that he needs his people to be in ship shape, like a true commander and drill sergeant. The guy doesn't much care for taking crap from others unless there is some sort of purpose for it. He is disgusted by the lack of work ethic on the Lost Light and carries himself around with the same sort of stride that he did for the Decepticons. Megatron is not going to back down just because he is an Autobot. He is not going to just allow people to walk all over him or take advantage of him. While he might be able to speak to people on their level, he seems to demand a certain amount of respect and by no means has lost his tenacity.
This becoming an Autobot now is purely as a means to an end - his end. While he might show some regret for his actions and believes that he is guilty of everything that he has done, he also believes that the Autobots are not blameless throughout their war and even prewar. While he might have been okay with being put on trial and even being put to death, what he is not okay with is making everything seem like 'Decepticons bad' and 'Autobots good.' All in all, what is important to take away is that Megatron's one true purpose is to stop oppression and free his people. What he wants to achieve a lasting peace and I cannot emphasize this enough as it is the driving force for everything that he does and believes.
As they say... The road to Hell is paved with good intentions. That is what truly defines Megatron. It's just that this time around? He's also trying to change that
Powers and Abilities:
- Cybertronian 'Physiology': This guy is a 34ft tall robot. Megatron has been shown to be hideously resilient to much that even your run of the mill Cybertronian wouldn't be able to handle. Bullets do little to no damage to Cybertronians in general, but any of their tech or tech that's comparable will cause some damage. Damage to the spark chamber, brain module, or t-cog will eventually do him in. That being said, there is a level of self repair systems that take care of minor damage.
- Transformation: Megatron has had quite a few different frames during his time, but his present one has all of the indicators of turning into a tank. In the past he's been able to turn into a gun, but only time will tell if he still has this ability.
- Space Bridges: Because of Shockwave messing around with his innards, Megatron has the ability to use a space bridge. This means he can essentially teleport as he sees fit to from location to location. It also means that if anyone punches through his armor in his abdomen, they may end up without a hand or an arm because they've come in contact with a portal to a dead universe or something of the like. Good luck with that. Now whether Megatron still has the ability to OPEN bridges on his own has yet to be seen, but since it seems like he still HAS the tech in him, it is important to note.
- Sober Slapping: Somehow Megatron has a technique for slapping a Cybertronian on the head so hard that it permanently activates their FIM chips it means that the effected robot can no longer get drunk... Megatron also can't get drunk for that matter.
- Mass Displacement: Yeah... Since Megatron had his spark modified for it, he can change his size. That about sums that one up.
- Misc: Not sure if these are necessarily powers or not, but it is worth noting that Megatron seems to be one of the toughest in the continuity. He had been ripped in half and still continued on like it had been nothing. In fact, he might have even said he's had worse. Megatron is ridiculously tough and resourceful.

Network:
At least there is one thing that I can take comfort in: no matter where my co-captain appears, he is as inept as ever. What a glorious fantasy he must live in, deluded in thinking he is a superb captain when the reality is that his quest was doomed to fail before he even took off - not that he even managed that properly. Here I had hoped that perhaps I would be pleasantly surprised, but alas.
Oh how history repeats itself.
[ when in doubt: trash talk Rodimus. but moving on because really... no one really needs to waste their time complaining 24/7. ]
The fact is, I require some assistance in getting myself back into proper working order. Notes. Lessons. I'm quite amenable to what can be offered.

Attempting to fit through some of these hallways proved to be quite a challenge for Megatron. While he would much rather walk through them as he was, he would transform and rumble through the corridors in his alt-mode regardless. Granted, he still held the option of shrinking down to a more appropriate size, but that was a card in his favor. The less people knew about that, the better. For now, he would simply have to deal with this minor inconvenience. Unfortunately, it would also mean that there were people that would simply have to wait for him to pass through - not that he really cared if it was an inconvenience for them or not. He was bigger and thus they should know their place and simply move aside. Why should Megatron care about people that are not his own?
It was passing the bar that his sensors picked up the fight inside. Megatron wasn't unfamiliar with how drunken idiots behaved - or how sober idiots behaved when entering a bar, really. He was of a mind to simply internally roll his optics and simply press on. For once he believed that he was fortunate in his inability to enter the establishment. It meant that he did not have to have a repeat of the incident that transpired so many centuries ago yet never, ever was forgotten. Luck was not on his side, however. The individuals that deemed fit to start taking swings at each other started to bleed into the corridor and their numbers grew. In fact, Megatron nearly didn't stop in time from getting organic gunk on his treads due to a well placed swing.
Ordinarily, he would just keep walking ( or driving in this case ) and ignore it. A shame for these people that they were blocking the hallway and Megatron didn't have the patience to deal with it. Taking aim with his cannon, he fired a shot against a wall, earning the attention of both parties. Whatever damage his cannon did was of little consequence to the former warlord. He would take whatever punishment was necessary if it meant these people stopped behaving like fools. Megatron instead slowly turned his cannon on the crowed.
"That," he said, "was merely a warning. I suggest you get out of the way."
Unsurprisingly enough, they did.
